Many Americans spend almost one-quarter of their week sitting in office chairs. Americans don‘t require the most elegant office desk chairs, most simply want a chair that‘s comfortable and affords them the freedom of movement to accomplish their tasks. For many, their chair doesn‘t satisfy either need. Many employees are simply handed the chair used by the person who last occupied their position and you can bet those aren‘t leather executive chairs. Wholesale changes aren‘t necessary. Following a few simple guidelines can aid employee comfort, which in turn leads to a healthier, more productive work force.
For people who are very tall or heavy weighted there are special big and tall chair available in the market to make them feel comfortable while they are at work. These chairs have long back and larger seats as compared to normal office chairs to fulfill the requirements of big and tall people. If they are forced to sit on normal chairs then they will soon become uncomfortable and this will also badly affect the quality of their work making them efficient.
Where should you start when choosing an office chair? Well, go from the ground, up. Seat height is arguably the most important factor to consider when purchasing new office furniture. Most office tasks can be accomplished from a chair seat that ranges from 16 to 21 inches from the floor. Adjustable chairs are important. Remember that not all nice looking chairs are good for every elegant office desk. Chairs that adjust are more comfortable and are also easier to pair with different office decors.
The most important part of this process is making sure to test the chair‘s height. Once you have reached the height you think your chair will work best for you at, take a seat to see how it feels. Your feet should be resting flat on the floor, with your knees bent at a ninety degree angle to optimize blood flow. It may take a few tries to get your chair positioned at the correct height, but keep in mind that it is important that you do to avoid unnecessary stress and pains. Some chairs will automatically lock into place once you have released the pneumatic height lever. Others may have a separate locking mechanism. If your chair requires a locking mechanism to lock the height in place, make sure to do so before putting your full weight on the chair.
A big disadvantage that is not necessarily the chairs fault, is that people get fooled into purchasing chairs that are advertised as cheap leather office chairs. They believe they are getting an unbelievable bargain price when in actuality really cheap chairs with leather upholstery will always be a compromise, frequently they are made from off cuts and scraps of very low quality leather that have been pieced together to cover the chair. This leather can be thin and brittle, meaning the chair will not last long and will begin to tear as time goes by.
One problem some people seem to find with leather is the tendency for it to put a shine on your clothing, especially for those that wear expensive outfits or business suits to work. You may find that your clothes wear out more quickly than before if you were sitting in a fabric or mesh chair. If you work in an office that does not have air conditioning or gets really hot in temperature, especially during the summer months, you may find that your leather office chair will cause you to sweat and perspire excessively. However, some top quality leathers do come with a breathable finish which will help reduce or even eliminate this problem.
